Snatching an opportunity in darkest January

Sailing courses aboard JemimaLast year Charlie Sailing offered a day out on the water in a charity auction in aid of the Nepal Earthquake appeal. The charter was taken last Sunday. It was grey and misty but remarkably mild. A weak wind and a string ebb tide called for some canny planning to avoid an engine cop out. Most of the breeze we made ourselves, but it enabled us to sail virtually into Yarmouth via Bouldnor Cliff. After lunch on board we could have sailed out of a deserted harbour, but were advised against it by one of the eagle eyed harbour staff. The return trip was slow with the last of the ebb whisking us down towards Hurst. We crept along the Pennington foreshore in very shallow water avoiding the worst of the tide and sailed almost to the Yacht Haven entrance. With the weather as grim as it has been one has to grab ones opportunities whenever they present themselves……………
